Here are things every new player must know.
Essentials
Even a Baby could play Bishop!
Highly demanded
  • Holy Symbol
    • Easy to get into bossing, leeching, & mobbing parties
  • Severe bishop shortage for low level bossing (As of October 2021)
    • Save the server :x
Genesis (Full Map Attack)
  • FASTEST leveling 120+
    • Out levels all non-FMA classes by a mile
    • Allows for power leveling into bossing levels
  • Stupid OP Power Spike at 120 (not kidding)
  • Hits up to 15 monsters on your screen (FMA)
  • Holy Affinity
    • Destroy Skeles
      • Everyone levels at Skeles from 120-150, you will excel
  • Make ~60m/hr
  • Level new characters with EASE
Mages have good early game damage WITHOUT funding (if you follow LUK-less meta)
Teleport - mobility & skip annoying platforms
Heal - decent mobbing early game & saves potions
Mystic Door - creates portal that allows for unlimited transport between current location & nearest town for up to 3 minutes

If you want to start the game on EASY mode, check out Allison's Bishop Guide
It has come to my attention that people HATE playing Mages
On Dream MS, you can actually start on any character you like, but keep in mind:
  • Some classes out level others prior to Lv. 170
  • Holy Symbol is the most highly demanded buff for daily bossing
If you don't care about min-maxing or leveling super fast, just play whatever you want :D
Does your class have these hax?
Every class levels the same speed prior to Lv. 80
FMA (Full Map Attack) -
  • All Explorer Mages at Lv. 120
  • Blaze Wizard at Lv. 110
  • Dark Knight at Lv. 70
Poison Training -
  • Fire & Poison Mage at 70
  • Blaze Wizard at 70
  • Night Walker at 70
Great Mobbing -
  • Thunder breaker at 70
  • Dawn Warrior at 70
Major activities recruit Buffs/DPS

All Primary party buffs
  • Holy Symbol
  • Sharp Infusion
  • Sharp Eyes
  • Hyper Body
  • Meso Up (not for bossing)
If you are a DPS class, your only appeal is being an attacker (literally) in bossing and training parties.
DPS or Party Buff Classes
Note: Slow leveling refers to during 3rd or 4th job
Speed Infusion Classes (SI)
  • Thunder Breaker (recommended)
    • great leveling
    • great mobbing
    • great cleaving
    • doesn't have Time Leap (no big deal)
  • Buccaneer
    • less flashy Thunder Breaker
    • has Time Leap
    • levels slower than Thunder Breaker
  • Severe shortage of SI :(
    • Rarity only second to Holy Symbol (Bishop)
  • SI Wanted by Dark Knights & most SE classes
Hyper Body Class (HB)
  • Dark Knight power levels 80 to 150 with Dragon Roar (costs lots of potions)
  • Berserk requires manual potting
    • you do 220% damage, but you're always on the brink of death
  • Mandatory manual potting + Constant attention to HP bar = turn off for casual player
  • HB is wanted by low level parties to survive bosses
Sharp Eyes Classes (SE)
  • SE classes are slow to level
  • Wind Archer
    • Perfect for bossing
      • has stance
      • has single-target damage
      • has cleave (multi-target damage)
  • Marksman, & Bow Master - Just no.
  • SE is wanted by everyone because it increases
    • damage
    • critical rate
    • critical damage
DPS Classes
  • Night Walker
    • Poison Bomb
      • Power levels 80-130
    • Unlock Flash Jump at 2nd Job
    • People set you as seduce at bosses
    • No buffs besides Haste
      • people will choose a NL over you for mobbing/leeching parties
  • Night Lord
    • Painfully Slow to level
    • People set you as seduce at bosses
    • Mobbing & leeches parties want your Meso Up
  • Corsair
    • SLOWER to level than Night Lord
    • Gets cute battle ship
P.S. The classes with hyperlinks redirect you to their class guide
Any classes with no buffs or DPS really
But..
  • Aran
    • Say no to carpal tunnel
    • Need to do a quest for almost every skill
  • Blaze Wizard
    • Flashy skills
    • Powerlevels 80-140,
    • Amazing cleaving damage at 4 bosses (nZak, cZak, nHt, cHT)
    • BUT...
      • Terrible single target damage (only good at Zakum and Horntail)
Everything into Primary Stat for Your Class (Damage)
This is META on every BBB private server
  • Warrior - Str
  • Bowman - Dex
  • Mage - Int
  • Thief - Luk
  • Bucaneer/Thunderbreaker - Str
  • Gunslinger - Dex
...Until around lvl 80
  • You want to gauge how many secondary stats you need to equip your ~lvl. 100 weapon
  • Buy equips scrolled with the relevant secondary stat to reach this
  • Add additional secondary stat to make up for the difference
  • 4956Base (4 LUK)
  • 4957Single Earrings (10 LUK)
  • 4958Chaos Zakum Helmet (23 LUK) - scrolled ones can go up to 40+ stats
  • 4959Horned Tail Necklace(22 LUK)
  • 4960Crimsonheart cloak (16 LUK)
  • 49614th Job Cygnus Medal (2 LUK)
  • 4962Bosshunter Gi (16 LUK)
  • 4963Maple Magician Shield (10 LUK)
In this example, we only achieve 103 LUK. We can achieve 105 LUK by:
  • adding 2 LUK to the stat window
  • use 2 AP Resets to move 2 points from INT into LUK
  • buying any gear that gives 2 more luk
Miss every hit? WTF BERBIE?!
  • META requires 4983 Amorian Basket for non-mage classes to not miss every hit
  • But!!! Baskets are FREE, they drop excessively in APQ so people give them away in the Free Market. Go beg.
  • Permanent Haste (speed & jump)
QoL

  • @stat - Instead of opening up the stat window to put 5 points into INT, just type @int every time you level up. This works for all stats.
  • @ephey - Useful if you don't want to click the green button
  • @whodrops item - tells you which mob(s) drop the item you want
  • 5405@Miu - Opens portable potion NPC if you own the item
  • /find Berbie - Stalk people
  • @track
    • Puts a yellow arrow on your head
    • takes 8 seconds to disappear upon typing @track again
  • @fx - opens up a window as of October 2021
    • Hides Smegas
    • Hides Gachapon Smegas
    • Hide people's cancerous skills & damage lines during bossing (SUPER F****** IMPORTANT)
Type @commands to see this window
5401
5402
5403
5404
So you probably know about the in-game Skill Macro
  • Skill window>Macro
  • Combo up to 3 skills into a hotkey
  • 5 different hotkeys available
But did you know you can hotkey commands from the previous section?
  • Put any skill (e.g. Magic Guard) into a Macro slot
  • Type the command (e.g. @ephey) into "Create My Own Skill Name" box
  • Hit OK
  • Hotkey that Macro
You won't actually shout the command, it just executes the command as long as you have a skill in one of the slots
Unique Functions
No HP Washing
  • Players do not need to worry about HP washing here! It is disabled.
  • MAX HP Increase Scrolls provide HP, MP and stats.
Custom Party EXP Distribution
  • Attackers get 100% of EXP
    • 6 people is ideal because it maximizes mob spawn count
  • Leechers get progressively less with more people added to party
    • 4 people is ideal to maximize Holy Symbol
Custom Expedition EXP Rates
  • After level 130, progressively gain more bonus EXP as you reach new level brackets
Boss Rewards
  • As long as you reach the damage threshold for your level/class
  • Pandora box
Leeching Requirements (any ONE of these)
  • within 5 levels of the monster killed (10 for bosses)
  • within 5 levels of the monster's killer
  • within 5 levels of an eligible party member
All this information can be found in detail on the Features thread
The family system is basically a family tree where anyone can:
  • Get adopted to become a Junior of someone else
  • And adopt up to two Juniors to become their Senior
  • Each Junior assigns themselves more Juniors and the cycle continues...
  • This leads us to the centralized family of Cash
Join Cash fam ASAP!
Cash owns the largest family on Dream MS, the only family you should join. Why? Because of these benefits:
  • Frequent Family Bonding (multiple times an hour)
    • Buff that grants Double XP & Drop for 1 hour
    • Buff can only be accepted once per day
    • Requires 6 members of the family to be on the same map
  • Centralized family = more people = more reps
    • Reps are the currency for executing family buffs
    • You gain reps when someone ELSE within 2 generations of your family kills mobs OR levels up
    • Reps gained are halved for everyone below if a Junior out levels their Senior
Buffs are OP!
  • Use XP Buffs during PQ or Mobbing to Power Level like CRAZY!
  • Stack Double XP Buffs up to 2 hrs and 45 minutes daily
  • There are 11 total buffs that grant Double XP OR Drop
    • Different durations for each
4988You will use This very Often
Teleport to Free market from *almost* anywhere
Essentials (buy useful stuff)
  • 4991Super Megaphones
  • 4992Super Item Megaphones
  • 4993VIP Teleport Rocks
  • 4994Cider (attack buff for early levels)
  • 4995Miu Miu Traveling Merchant (portable NPC that sells arrows, nearest town scroll, and nearly ALL pots)
Milestone (hit next to accept rewards)
  • After reaching lvl 10, you can claim a medal called Maple Lover which boosts all stats.
  • After your 2nd job advancement, you can claim an OP, but temporary Pink Flower Tube that will last you until lvl 64.
  • Once you hit lvl 70, you can claim a 2 hour XP buff
    • Super useful for leveling to lvl 120
    • WARNING: this buff will apply instantly & does not stack with other XP buffs
    • If you don't use it before lvl 150, it will disappear
  • At lvl 120, you can claim a ring called Circlet of Ancient Power - thanks angelic
    • +2 to all stats
    • Easy way to get more secondary stats
    • Cannot be destroyed by dark scrolls
4989Ephey's 7 Weekly Quests
Each week, you get to choose 7 quests from a list to complete.
  • The lists of quests will go up in difficulty as you reach higher level brackets
  • Once all 7 quest are picked, none can be forfeited
  • Weeklies reset on Sunday in America.
  • DO NOT turn in the 7 crystals before Lvl. 30.
    • You will get NOTHING
Turning in each quest yields flat % XP depending on level bracket
  • 70% FLAT XP means you fill up 70% of your EXP bar if you are Lvl. 30-69
  • Often used for jumping levels 51-55 and 117-120

  • Amount of Cash Reward also depends on level bracket
  • NX can be gifted, Maple Points can NOT
  • Level 30-49: 32,500 Maple Points
  • Level 50-89: 42,500 Maple Points
  • Level 90-119: 42,500 NX
  • Level 120+: 52,500 NX
Spending this Cash Reward wisely as a new player
  • Pet
  • Pet Equips (especially Auto hp and mp pot)
  • Wedding Ticket (get married ASAP to do APQ for money)
  • Expand inventory slots (Thanks Allison!)
Resources
The Best Money until Bossing
Why APQ?
  • After playing for a couple days, I reached lvl 80 and only had 800k...
  • I jumped to 20m after 30 mins of APQ.
  • 4990 Onyx Apples are worth ~2.7m as of 10/08/21
    • You get 8-12 on average from 30 mins of APQ (4 runs)
My Suggestion
  • Spend 20K of your first NX from weeklies on a Wedding Ticket
  • Marry yourself on another account (multi-client)
  • APQ on both characters every day
  • Characters must be lvl. 50 to get married

Great guide! Learnt quite a bit of things.
Thank you!

Some updates have been made since yesterday:
  • Added the EXP chart and level brackets for the Ephey Weeklies section.
  • Added a spoiler on how to Macro commands like @ephey or @track into a hotkey
  • Revamped the Other meta classes section completely (I advise you check it out if you didn't make a bishop already ^_^)
  • Added mandatory Amorian Basket for non-mage classes going full primary stat
  • Added explanation to Family section

First of all as a Night Walker, all of 3.5 of us are offended haha. I do have to kinda disagree in general. You should play whatever is fun to you and not the optimal / meta class to play. I know a lot of us are used to servers who have incredibly stale meta, but this server is a bit different considering skill changes are a lot more frequent (which is a good thing). Your chosen class might be better next patch, who knows? It can lead to interesting experiences as well. In 2013 I started playing on some server (that is still running to this day). I made a Corsair without knowing anything about them because I never got to play them. A few months after that I became top 2 Corsair for a while and made a name for myself, only slipping off top 10 after a year or so (cause I quit a lot). If I followed the meta, I'd probably just be a common NL. Come to find out they're just at strong as them or even stronger in certain situations. There's magic in going blind and not knowing what to expect. Following a meta and focusing on too much min maxing sucks the fun out of it. I do appreciate the humor in this thread though.

Few questions regarding bishops -
  • Make ~60m/hr
How?
  • Level new characters with EASE
So do you recommend making a new account for bishop? because I've heard arguments against it (mainly that leech is not as good and you lose BoF points).

Funny thing, NW actually has pretty positive points in my thread.

My second main is a NW, and I would have quit it or not for the funding I had from my main for pots/gears. I can only imagine how much slower NL takes to get to 130 to boss without poison training.

I’m not saying to only play bishop, but it’s super optimal for your experience if you make it your first character.

New players don’t know which classes are fun to them yet, a lot of them just pick what looks cool or other people’s recommendations.

That’s why I said what looks cool might not be optimal for a FIRST character.

So they should give bishop a try and if what they find fun happens to align with the meta, then great. They shouldn’t avoid it just because people tell them mage are boring.

In regards to mages, I find they just skip many annoying parts of the game and idk if that’s considered fun, but it’s at bare minimum not annoying.

It’s usually demotivating to noobs and makes them prone to quitting if they pour time into
their first character to realize they level slow and require funds that they do not have, they will be stuck

Bishop is more of a foundation character that makes the remaining experience more smooth.

Sure it can be, but I guarantee you that leveling a NL or Corsair as a first character is the farthest thing from fun and many would agree because they made the mistake of doing that.

The game basically starts at 130 when you do bosses and these two classes suffer until th

Minmaxing definitely can take the fun out of things, but that’s why I’m saying to try bishop first character. If you like it, great. If not, use it to fund your second character.

And that’s also why I said it’s your choice at the end of the day, but don’t complain if you’re three days into Corsair/NL and can’t survive the turtle race to 130.

i appreciate your el

Bishops use Genesis to farm at ulu or skeles, with ulu requiring less Magic to 1 hit.
Most of the money comes from vendor int the equips that drop from the mobs.

I would say to make a bishop on a separate account than your other classes so that you can power lvl them.

BOF isn’t a big deal if you don’t plan on maining your bishop.

It’s mostly for getting your other characters to 130.

I enjoy early game, sometimes a lot more than late game. It's usually because in other servers once you reach 120 there's a severe lack of content. So a slow early game is more than fun for me, actually, as both someone who's playing a NW and a Sair, haha. And early game doesn't really matter that much. Mushroom Kingdom > EPQ > PPQ > RnJPQ > Gallos etc. Leaves not a lot of difference between classes honestly. But whatever. That's your experience and if you've had a bad time, warning other people is valid. Making a bishop is a rule of thumb in these versions, there's literally almost no reason not to do it. But after starting off with bishops for so long, planning so far ahead is too much of a chore in my opinion. Just play whatever you want, I personally pick classes I haven't played with before.

By the way when you're referring to new players - are you referring to players who are new to PSMS or players who are new to the server? because I'm talking about players who are new to the server, not the game.

I enjoy early game as well, especially the 10-30 questing. I also enjoy gallos & skele mobbing with FMA. There's something satisfying seeing 15 monsters explode into a pile of loot in an instant and seeing your exp bar ramp up.

That's true. Once you hit 130, it's just daily bosses/czak/ht until you're 170 for hoh.
So a slow early game is more than fun for me, actually, as both someone who's playing a NW and a Sair, haha.
Pretty sure most people do not prefer a slow early game nor would they intentionally choose it and I'm not talking about PQing levels otherwise they'd play on a server with lower exp rates.
And early game doesn't really matter that much. Mushroom Kingdom > EPQ > PPQ > RnJPQ > Gallos etc. Leaves not a lot of difference between classes honestly.
Yes, everyone basically shares the same early game since they just PQ until ~lvl 80.

But by early game I was referring to the exp disproportionately slowing down for sair/NL when they reach gallsos/skele mobbing(89-140) which is crucial for getting into bossing. I don't know if you still count that as mid-game as where we draw the line is arbitrary, but to most people that is still early game because it's prior to bossing.

There is a tremendous leveling speed difference between FMA classes at gallos/skele and classes that don't have fma at those levels.
As someone who's gotten bishop, blaze wizard, night walker, dark knight, and wind archer past 130, I can confirm this.

Leeching wise, everyone is the same speed, but I don't think you were referring to that.
But whatever. That's your experience and if you've had a bad time, warning other people is valid.
It's not about having a bad time, it's keeping the facts 100. If there's classes that level faster than another and reaps significantly more benefits, I'm going to say it like it is.

It is up to the newbie to decide whether they want to minmax. If they didn't care about efficiency, then they wouldn't be looking at guides in the first place and be blindly choosing classes and doing random skill builds.
Making a bishop is a rule of thumb in these versions, there's literally almost no reason not to do it. But after starting off with bishops for so long, planning so far ahead is too much of a chore in my opinion. Just play whatever you want, I personally pick classes I haven't played with before.
Basically, you can't go wrong with Bishop. Everyone's idea of fun is different, but many would agree that handicapping sticking points are not fun.

Again, bishop is more of a foundation character to fund/level your other characters. If you don't value time/efficiency as much, start with NL/sair.
By the way when you're referring to new players - are you referring to players who are new to PSMS or players who are new to the server? because I'm talking about players who are new to the server, not the game.
I'm talking about players new to private servers as well because the meta still applies.

There's various other games they could be playing instead of an older version of MS in an age of mobas and battle royales.

The goal is to make them stay. But being out leveled drastically by your peers despite investing the same amount of time is a sure fire way to make yourself quit. Especially, in an age of instant gratification regardless if they're 25+ playing for nostalgia.

You should add Brief's 10-30 guide:
No offense but it's way faster than yours
Thanks for sharing! Need to note this guide isn't for new players though since they can't get the ETCs as easily.

Yea, basically what I was thinking. On top of the teleport rocks being way out of a new player's budget.

Wish I knew about your guide though when leveling up my alts!! :x

sigh, so another Bishopstory server, so disappointed. I just recently joined the server and I was told on the discord server that you can play any class you enjoy on this server, especially if the class has a useful party buff, so you can join in the boss runs and fund yourself, guess not. I was so excited when I learned that unlike in royal or legends that I had to play something I hate before going for what I truly wanna play, I can actually play what I love and fund myself through Actually playing the game instead of hanging on a ladder AFKing. Well, what a massive letdown. But nothing against this guide tho, I think it's a great guide you are just stating the facts. Thanks for letting me know about this before I invest too much time on here.

Dailies gives you up to 4 ws a day. Pretty sure you can self fund without using a bishop. As long as you have SE/SI/HB, you can get into a pt easily (in that order)

sigh, so another Bishopstory server, so disappointed. I haven't funded my self (shadower claas) through a mage and just mostly bossing with some meso farming. I wouldn't say I am super far behind compared to others my lvl with a mage, so if you don't want to play mage then just skip mage.

While holy symbol is also meta for exp gain in my experience most people are willing to run bosses without it.

I made a bishop first on this server and can’t say how much I regretted it, absolute waste of time. Just play a SE/SI class and you can get into parties just as easily as a BS

Actually, the others are correct in terms of you can make your first class anything you want. I'm sure you can have fun if you try out a first character. This server is definitely way more fun than royals I can tell you that unless you actually enjoy hp washing and low mob density/spawn rates. The unique ephey features and weeklies make this server shine so much, so much incentive to do them for free NX. ability to tp to fm from anywhere, move faster on ropes, useful commands.

Any class with FMA will always level faster than those without on pretty much any private server cuz fma is OP, so keep that in mind. Other classes are only considered slow leveling when compared to something that is OP.
Actually playing the game instead of hanging on a ladder AFKing. Well, what a massive letdown.
To be fair, leeching is no where near as important here as it is on servers like Royals because it is nerfed. It is only for lazy people who want to level up other characters while still progressing on their initial one.

LMAO I can't believe so many people hate playing bishop

This is a good guide; some of my other ideas:

Step 1. Make a BS and BW together
Step 2. Use fam system and put BW on top of BS (while putting MU below BS)
Step 3. Grind like crazy and gain reps
Step4. BS+BW duo mage farm 2x drop at ulu1
Step5. become Billionare
Step.6 Make MU mule
Step.7 Fall in love with farming
Step.8 Become next StevenLim

Thank you!

I did something like that by putting my characters in the same family under on another and became rich in reps.
I notice I get a lot of reps from leveling up at high lvls from bossing.

that’s so sweaty though, but I’d have to have a NL in dark sight on every platform to auto loot if I ever fma on multi client
