This guide is still accurate as of December, 2021

4441

Pros
🔸 With Holy Symbol and other utility skills, you are an indispensable member for bosses and group activities. You are in high demand
🔸 Full map attack (Genesis) allowing you to farm for Mesos and complete quests easily (details on farming can be found below)
🔸 One of the fastest classes to level from level 120 ~ 160
🔸 With Angel Ray 40, you carry your own weight when it comes to single target damage
🔸 Magic Guard allowing you to tank a ton of damage
🔸 If nothing else, you'd make an awesome HS/Door mule

Cons
🔹 No effective cleave (multi-target attacks)
🔹 One of the slowest classes to level before level 120
🔹 Mediocre scaling beyond level 200 (difficulty whiting bosses/mobs impacting EXP gain)
🔹 You are prone to dying if you don't pay attention to your Magic Guard in bosses

4445

INT and LUK
  • Your primary stat is INT. 1 INT = 1 magic. The higher your magic, the more damage you deal
  • Your secondary stat is LUK. LUK does not give you any magic; it is only a requirement for wearing certain equipment
What requires LUK
Your mid and end-game weapons and equipment all require LUK. For example, the Doomsday Staff requires 80 LUK, and the Timeless Enreal Tear (Wand) requires 120LUK. There are many items in the game that give LUK and will eventually allow you to be LUKless, but before that happens, you will have to allocate some points into LUK in order to wear your early-game equipment. When you eventually get enough LUK from your equipment, you can respec the extra LUK back into INT using AP Resets from the Cash Shop.

Reminder: Each strengthening scroll from Horntail, Chaos Zakum, and Chaos HT grants 2 to all stats. Make sure you passed all of these scrolls for the free LUK before you allocate AP points into LUK for your Reverse/Timeless weapon.

When to put SP points into LUK
The first equipment you will wear that requires LUK is the Doomsday Staff (level 102), and it requires 80LUK. If you have a Zakum Helmet with 15LUK, a Horntail Necklace with 22Luk and a Medal with 1Luk, you will need 42 base LUK.

If you are unfunded, it's not likely that you can afford a Doomsday staff at level 102, which means you will most likely use a Maple Shine Wand all the way to 120, and that is fine. If this is the case, don't worry about saving AP points for LUK until at least level 110. Once you get to 120 and can level at Skele with Genesis, you will be able to afford a Zakum Helmet, HT Necklace, and a Doomsday Staff.

If at any point you aren't sure where something is, look it up on hidden-street; It's a fantastic resource.

1st Job Advancement - Magician
  1. Visit the Magic Library in Ellinia (building at the very top center of the map)
  2. Speak with Grendel the Really Old
  3. Allocate the 1 skill point you received into Magic Bolt

  3. Max Magic Guard (20)
  4. 5 points into Improved MP Recovery
  5. Max Improved MaxMP Increase (10)
  6. Max Improved MP Recovery (16)
Note: Because of HP/MP scrolls on this server and you being able to reach max MP eventually, maxing 'Improved MaxMP Increase' first will not have any impact on you late game

2nd Job Advancement - Cleric
  1. Speak to Grendel the Really Old
  2. Speak with the Test Instructor for Magician NPC in North of Ellinia (climb to the very top) and enter a map where you will collect 30 Dark Marbles by committing mass genocide on the monsters inside
  3. Once you've collected 30 Dark Marbles, speak to the NPC again to receive a 'Proof of Hero'
  4. Return the 'Proof of Hero' to Grendel the Really Old
  5. Select the Cleric option, and allocate the 1 skill point you received into Teleport
Skills
  1. 1 point into Teleport
  2. Max Heal (30)
  3. Max Teleport (20) (mainly because Teleport costs too much MP if not at least close to maxed)
  4. 5 points into Invincible
  5. Max Bless (20)
  6. Max Invincible (20)
  7. Max MP Eater
  8. 11 points into Holy Arrow

3rd Job Advancement - Priest
  1. Speak to Robeira in El Nath - Chief Residence. She will ask for a Necklace of Strength and Necklace of Wisdom
Getting the Necklace of Strength
  1. Speak to Grendel the Really Old, he will ask you to eliminate his clone
  2. Before the next part, be sure to have 20 All Cure Potions or Holy Water (purchased from potion store in Ellinia)
  3. Enter the Door of Dimension at Forest of Evil II
  4. Walk to the end and defeat the clone inside (don't forget Magic Guard)
  5. Exit the map using the crystal at the top right corner
  6. Speak to Grendel the Really Old
Getting the Necklace of Wisdom
  1. To get this item, you need to pass a quiz, and each attempt costs one Dark Crystal. If you are confident you will pass after one attempt, bring only one crystal, otherwise, bring more
  2. Below are a couple of links for the questions and answers
    Questions & Answers - Link 1
    Questions & Answers - Link 2
  3. Once you've got the above links opened, and have a Dark Crystal with you, head to Sharp Cliff II in El Nath and enter the top right portal
  4. You are now in the Holy Ground. Drop all the way to the bottom and click on the Holy Stone to begin the quiz. Answering one question incorrectly will end the quiz
  5. After you answer all questions correctly, you will receive the Necklace of Wisdom
  6. Return both Necklaces to Robeira and you will advance to a Priest
  7. Allocate the 1 skill point you receive from the advancement into Shining Ray
Skills
  1. 1 point into Shining Ray (or Mystic Door if you're making a HS mule)
  2. 3 points into Dispel
  3. Max Holy Symbol (30)
  4. Max Shining Ray (30) (if needed, put 1 point into Mystic Door before maxing Shining Ray)
  5. Max Mystic Door (20)
  6. Max Elemental Resistance (20)
  7. Max Dispel (20)
  8. Put 15 points into Summoning Dragon (a requirement for 4th job Bahamut)
  9. Put 16 points into Doom

4th Job Advancement - Bishop
  1. Speak to Robeira in El Nath - Chief Residence
  2. Speak to the 4th job instructor by going to Leafre: Valley of the Antelope and enter the top right portal
  3. You will be asked to retrieve a Heroic Star and Heroic Pentagon
  4. Get these items by defeating Manon and Griffey, or by trading in a Secret Spell Scroll to Chief Tatamo. The Secret Spell Scroll can be purchased from the scroll NPC on the 44th floor of Eos Tower (in Ludi) for 10mil Mesos, or you can purchase one from a FM store by searching for it with an Owl
  5. Return Heroic Star and Heroic pentagon to the 4th Job Instructor for job advancement
  6. Speak to the 4th Job Instructor again and grab all quests before you leave
Skills
  1. At level 120, 2 points into Maple Warrior, 1 point into Genesis (acquired from quest, see Skill Quest section)
  2. Get Maple Warrior to level 9 (max MW (30) whenever you can afford it)
  3. Get Genesis to level 10
  4. If you have 980 magic by now, you can 2-hit Skele with Gen10. If this is the case, stop leveling Genesis until you have 1300 magic (for Gen30) or 1270 magic (for Gen40) as these are the 1-hit requirements
*If you do not have 980 magic, you can choose to either gear up more or keep leveling Genesis until you can 2-hit, but MP cost of Genesis is highest at Gen 20
  5. Once you 2-hit Skele, put 1 point into Resurrection (acquired from quest, see Skill Quest section)
  6. Work on 1-hitting Skele by getting 1300 magic with Gen30 or 1270 magic with Gen 40, OR start maxing Angel Ray (40), Angel's Fury (20), and Infinity (30) for bossing
  7. Max Holy Shield (40)
  8. Max Resurrection (10)
  9. Max Hero's Will (5) (acquired from quest, see Skill Quest section)
  10. Max Bahamut (30) (acquired from quest, see Skill Quest section)
  11. Max Doom (30) if you often farm for Crimson Hearts for cwkpq
  12. Big Bang and Mana Reflection are useless. Max last

4437

Notes
  • Items in pink font is for funded players
  • Even if you are not funded, you will start to gain a lot of Mesos from Genesis farming once you reach 120
  • Do not use any Elemental wands or staffs because they will reduce your damage by 25%
  • There's no shame in using Maple Shine Wand until level 120. I did that when I first started ;)
4420

4438

Notes
  • Do not use any Elemental wands or staffs because they will reduce your damage by 25%
  • "Crafted" means crafted using the Maker skill, a Dream MS guide by @MsGenia for getting this skill can be found here
  • A Dream MS guide by @Study for crafting reverse & timeless weapons and armor can be found here
  • Magic Eye Patch and Angelic Blessing Ring are both items crafted using items obtained by defeating Empress. More details here
  • Scroll for Belts for Int 10% is dropped by Empress
  • Crystal Leaf Earrings is an equally good option compared to Rex's Earrings
  • The following infographic is a guideline. Gearing up is not a race; play at your own pace
4871

4439

Acquiring Mesos Early Game
  • Like every other class, you won't see real Mesos flowing in until 4th job, but you would never have to beg for Mesos in FM on this server unless you've made many poor financial decisions
  • Your potion needs should be well taken care of if you follow the leveling guide
  • You can get a lot of additional Mesos if you loot all equipment dropped from mobs and NPC them
  • You can sell NX for Mesos but I recommend using your NX to expand your inventory slots first
  • Scrolls and ores that you get from leveling can be sold in FM (You can get a FM store from your level 50 milestone reward)
  • Please do not spend the first 500K Mesos you earn on Gachapon
Skele Farming
  • From level 120~160, Skele is recommended because they give you great exp at the same time
  • With 2x Drop, Meso Up and Hyper Body, expect around 55~60mil/hour. Loot with your mage
  • The above stats are assuming you are only farming the top half of the map. Bottom is inefficient
  • Ensure you have at least 5 total players in the map for maximum spawn rates
Ulu Farming
  • Ulu Entrance has the best meso/hr for a single mage (70~80mil/hr with MU), but vacant channels are difficult to find
  • Ulu1 is a duo-mage farming map. Each mage will yield about 40~50mil/hour (with Meso Up and 2x drop).
  • Dedicated looter required, which means you will be running at least 3 clients (2 mage + 1 looter, pref a thief with MU)
  • You can also find a friend to duo this map with you, if you do so, you will loot on your mage
Goby Farming
  • Deep Sea Gorge II is a unique farming spot that requires 3 mages
  • Meso gain is mostly reliant on selling ores obtained from this map
  • Assuming all of your ores sell, you can expect to earn more than 300mil/hr; however, if your ores don't sell or if their prices drop, Ulu is still better
  • 1-3 dedicated looters required. Either have one dedicated looter, or park a looter next to every mage. Mages should not be looting
  • Below is an image reference for where your mages should stand. No moving is required, but expect to reposition occasionally
    5771
Inkwell Coins
  • Once you get Angel Ray to 35~40, you can start bossing and earning Inkwell coins which you can trade in for white/chaos scrolls and sell them for Mesos
  • There are a lot of coins to be earned if you complete daily Krex, Wulin, NZak, CZak, Scarga, Toad, HT, CHT, and weekly PB + Empress
Merching
  • Buying low and selling high is a very effective methodology for making Mesos
  • Selling your Gacha loot is a great way to make Mesos
  • I suggest using a price guide that is updated frequently for your merching needs
You can read more about this topic in @Study's Meso Farming Guide here.

4444

General Tips (Apply to all bosses)
  • Keep Magic Guard, Holy Symbol (HS), Invincible, and Maple Warrior active
  • Angel Ray to attack, Holy Shield for your party
  • Cast Infinity whenever it's off cooldown, or strategically to fit into Smokescreen cooldown (if your party has a Shadower)
  • Cast Angel's Fury whenever it's off cooldown
  • Summon your Bahamut if you want a tiny bit more damage
  • Always have Wizard Elixirs (from Miu) with you
Krex/Wulin/Toad/Nzak
> Be the one to teleport to 'The Passage', walk to Zakum Entrance, and door party members
> If you are the host, you are responsible for getting Toad door (smega to buy, ask a guildie, walk there yourself, or DM me for a free door ;))

Chaos Zakum
  • Heal seduced party members during arm phase
  • If you have any doubt whatsoever, or if you are not actively paying attention, do NOT heal during body phases no matter what
  • Only heal if BOTH of the following conditions are met
*One or more of your party member is pot locked and got hit by 1/1, AND is about to get hit by another attack
*You are 100% sure nobody in the party is zombified
  • If you had to pick between a zombified and pot locked party member, send thoughts and prayers to your pot locked party member unless the pot locked party member is a friend, in which case feel free to murder the zombified member - I won't judge
*If both the zombified and pot locked party members are your friends, it's time to let them know who is your favorite

Horntail and Chaos Horntail
  • Make sure you have Hero's Will and Resurrection
  • Preheads are easy. Just attack and keep HS up
  • At the main boss, pay attention to body parts' HP and HS before a body part dies. I highly recommend binding @bosshp to a skill macro
  • Pay attention to Dispels
  • See CHT Tips below for thresholds for certain debuff triggers. A good Bishop pays attention to body parts' HP to ensure pot lock and mass seduce doesn't get triggered until the party is ready
  • Focus on legs, tail, head A (left head), then everything else. Listen to the host's calls
  • Do NOT heal in CHT once your party starts attacking heads. You can heal freely after all heads are dead
  • Be protective of your own exp gain. Unless it's a Dawn Warrior or head B and C are both dead or on weapon cancel, bishops should be the only ones on Head A. The bishop with the highest magic should always be the one to white Head A. If an attacker has no reason to be on Head A, politely ask them to move
Managing your Sed
  • Usually the party's designated Seduce player is a thief with high avoidability for maximizing their chances of survival and shouldn't really need your help
  • If your sed gets seduced to the right while legs and tail are alive, follow him if you can tank tail. Otherwise, stay left and send your sed thoughts and prayers
  • In CHT, once legs and tail are both dead and you've started attacking Head A, you can ignore your sed completely until all heads are dead because healing them might kill the both of you
  • In normal HT, check on your sed regularly because there is no zombify and you are free to heal
*Remember, anyone dying is better than you dying because you have Ress
General Tips
  • From left to right is Head A, B, and C
  • Head A and right hand are weak to holy
  • Both hands will start casting mass seduce at 30% HP and below
  • Leaving wings alive will allow your party to deal more damage to heads
  • If you are standing on the top left platform, you will die if you get dispelled and hit by wing flap at the same time. There is nothing you can do about this but it rarely happens
  • Getting hit by 1/1 while standing in poison cloud can kill you if the timing is right or if your pet fails to heal you, the good news is this type of death is 100% preventable (unless you're sed) because of the next point
  • Incoming 1/1 attacks are indicated by the totem shown below, which is followed by a lightning zap that does the 1/1 hit and can usually be dodged. If you can't dodge it, pot manually just in case and you will never die
4423

CHT Tips
  • You can only wheel once in CHT. Resurrection does not count as consuming a wheel
  • Hero's Will can remove seduce and pot lock, but it has a cooldown so use wisely
  • Head C can cast magic damage reflect at 60% HP and below
  • Left hand will start casting dispel at 60% HP and below
  • Right hand will start casting pot lock at 40% HP and below
  • All heads can cast dispel and zombify. You are free to heal once all heads are dead

Pink Bean
  • Minimum 1700 clean magic recommended for 6man PB
  • Use Sswis Cheese between Infinity (expect to use 10~12 cheese per run)
  • Hero's Will and Resurrection are mandatory
  • Pay attention to dispel during statue phase. PB itself does not dispel
  • Listen to the host's calls
  • During statue phase, pay attention and do not trigger mass seduce or DR by staying on the left side of the red line indicated below. Positioning is mirrored from the right side
    4427
  • Do NOT heal for the entire duration of the expedition
  • When all statues are dead, wait for someone to rush PB to the left before you drop down to the right of PB. Do not be on PB's left side
Managing Damage Reflect
  • Although not anyone's responsibility, it's extremely helpful for someone to keep track of Pink Bean's damage reflect (DR) timer
  • PB casts DR around once every minute when it's at 90% HP or below
  • Once PB casts DR, type down the seconds on the timer so your party knows when to expect the next DR
*For example, at 26:50, PB casts DR, type "50" in all chat so you and your party knows PB is likely going to cast DR again at 25:50
  • DR always lasts for 20 seconds, but the 1-minute cooldown is not exact. He can cast DR again a few seconds earlier, or up to 40 seconds later

Empress can feel overwhelming at first. Feel free to DM me on Discord (klo#8334) if you need further clarifications.

Overall mechanics and prequest guide can be found in @Study's Empress guide here. Below is an empress guide specific to Bishops

Minimum expectations
  • Remember that the minimum level requirement for Empress is 225
  • Minimum 2100 clean magic recommended for 18man runs
  • Expect to burn 12~15 cheese per 1 hour run. I recommend having at least 30 cheese in your inventory in case you fail a run or two
  • Hero's Will and Resurrection are mandatory
  • If you don't pay attention to what's happening, or the animations of Empress' skills, you will die
  • Good to have: Amorian Basket, Sunblock (from CWKPQ)
  • Be on Discord voice comm at least to listen to the host's calls
Basic mechanics
  • You have 1 hour to defeat Empress
  • Each death takes 30 seconds off the clock whether the player revives through resurrection or wheel. Not dying to Empress mechanics will do more for you than dps
  • When Empress' HP drops below 40%, she will heal back up 80%, and will initiate this heal 10 times before you can defeat her
  • Empress casts DR, this is the DR animation, memorize it. Yell out DR each time, the louder you yell, the more likely you will get a white scroll when you defeat her
  • Empress also casts Pot Lock, 1/1, and Seduce
  • Empress can cast Undead if below 50% HP, and the animation could be invisible
  • Empress stuns your dps a lot. Use Holy Shield off cool down
  • Hero's Will removes Pot Lock
How to play around Empress mechanics as a Bishop

General
  • In the expedition window, stay on the Boss HP tab
  • Always stay on the side that the majority of your roster is on. Players should not be split between left and right side of Empress
  • Empress has a limited range in her attack. If you stand far enough, she won't hit you at all. When players are potlocked, stay away from Empress' attack range so you have MP to heal your party members
  • Always call out DR. Sometimes the animation is invisible for some players
  • Empress herself does not cast Dispel, but her summons do (more details in later sections)
Healing, Pot Lock, and Seduce
  • As long as Empress is above 50% HP, you are free to heal as much as you want
  • During sed, follow your sed and heal them UNLESS Empress is below 50% HP
  • When pot locked, stay away from Empress' attack range. Do not get greedy and hit her
  • During pot lock, some of your party members will get hit. It's your responsibility to heal them as much as you can, even if it means getting within Empress' attack range, but your party members should also try to stay away from Empress' attack range so you can heal them without risking your own life
  • Alert your party member if you cannot heal them for whatever reason (e.g. you got 1/1'd, or you're on the wrong side of Empress)
  • Do not touch Empress when you are pot locked
  • Do not risk your life for your party members or sed players if you are pot locked
  • When Empress is below 50% HP, warn your party that you will not heal anymore
Mechanics of additional spawns
5303

  • Above are the main adds that Empress will spawn throughout the run (Study's guide has a very good explanation for each one)
  • For Bishop, the spawns that concern you the most are Shinsoo, Irena, and Mihile
  • During the run, Empress has 3 different categories of spawns, and all of them are guaranteed to occur in your run (details below)

  • 1st category (V1): Empress spawns one of the above 5 Cygnus Knights, accompanied by lesser mobs. Referred to as V1 spawns
    - Empress will summon one of each Cygnus knights until all have been summoned
    - Empress will be invulnerable during this phase until the Cygnus mob is dead
    - You can mindlessly attack unless it's Irena, who cast Dispels. If it's Irena, do not engage. Allow party to pin her on one side, and you go to the opposite side and wait until she is dead
  • 2nd category (V2): Empress spawns all of the above 5 Cygnus Knights at once. Referred to as V2 spawns
    - Empress will be invulnerable during this phase until all 5 Cygnus Knights are dead- Your party will rush Mihile to one side of the map, and the rest of the Knights to the opposite side of the map because..
    - Irena will cast Dispel, and Mihile will cast DR at 70% HP and below with a 70s cooldown
    - While your party is rushing the Knights to either side, stay as far away from Irena as possible, and watch your Magic Guard if you need to walk past Irena
    - Bishops will stay on the side that Mihile is on, and only attack Mihile. You will not go to Irena's side except to Holy Shield your party members who are attacking the rest of the Knights on the other side of the map
    - You will attack Mihile until he hits 70% HP, then you will stop and wait for him to cast DR. Note down the time of when he casts DR. Once DR is over, continue attacking him until 1 minute after the noted time has passed
(For example, Mihile casted DR at 49:30. You will note down "30". Once DR is over, you will attack him until 48:30, then you will stop and wait for DR again. Rinse and repeat)
  • 3rd category (Shinsoo): Empress summons Shinsoo
    - Shinsoo casts Dispel, so stay away and let your party kill Shinsoo
    - Your party should prioritize Shinsoo because he is squishy, he Dispels, and he heals Empress
    - If you notice your party is not prioritizing Shinshoo, kindly tell them to git gud and please prioritize. The sooner it dies, the sooner you can get back to hitting Empress

Thank you @Glaz for the banners.

A few quick suggestions gearing (thanks to @bren. for confirming)
  • End end game rings for bishops would be the Circle of Ancient Power, ABR, ROA and 250 Ring.
  • The eye patch is an eye accessory so it would replace the raccoon mask not the leaf.
On your question on Memory Lane multi mage farming - the rates have been very volatile given the decline in piece-of-time prices (3m each in late June to 500K today). It’s in-line with, maybe a bit higher than Ulu dual-mage farming based on today’s rates.

On top of what @Study mentioned, I would like to just throw in the following suggestions for change, mainly targeting the "High-End" gear sets.
  • Chaos Zakum Helm shouldn't just be perfected 10%, but chaos'd on the first 1-2 slots.
  • Timeless Moonlight shouldn't be perfected with 10%, but chaos'd fully. You have the luxury of working with both INT and Matt if you use a chaos,. Giving you a range of (1~10 TMA) on each positive chaos. Not forgetting to mention, the addition of LUK.

Agree to both.

Will update in a few days. I will also be increasing the recommended minimum magic requirement for 6man PB to 1700 magic, but open to other suggestions.

If I may just add one more thing, you can suggest crafting Crystal Leaf Earrings too. A pair of Crystal Leaf Earrings gives the followings stats (clean):
- 3 Magic Attack
- 6 Slots + 2 Hammer Slots

Other than that, I think the guide is amazingly crafted, and I can't thank you enough for the hard work put into this. Thank you for creating one, a job I never could have gotten myself to do. Definitely more than enough to get new bishops out there on the right foot. Thanks again!

Great guide Allison! Do you happen to know the TMA needed to 7s at HoH?
Just tested for you. It's around 2550 magic to 7s, and 2650 to 6s (with Bahamut). The time actually varies greatly depending if you're on infinity and getting knocked back.

I tried answering the 7s HoH question from a theoretical perspective and got a similar answer (2540-2550). See table below. Having SE would lessen the requirement by a little bit (2520-2530 for 100%).

My goal was to determine what the chance of dealing 5M damage in 10 casts of AR40, which is 7.2s plus knockback time, frame delays, etc. You can mitigate against some of the knockback by dodging attacks with teleport.

I also backed out what an approximate clean TMA would need to be assuming the buffs are only Echo, MW30 (on 4 LUK), and weather i.e. not reliant on Infinity/cheese.

Edit: I forgot to multiply the MDEF by 0.6 for MIN and 0.5 for MAX above, effectively giving too much credit for its MDEF. Slight adjustment to the calculation which reduces the required TMA by a bit. Note all these calculations assume that damage follows uniform distribution of across the range.

Edit2: A few practical tests suggest these numbers may be conservatively high (since my damage seems to be less affected by MDEF than expected by formula), so in practice you may be able to get by with slightly less TMA.

The following changes have been made to the guide:
  • Corrected the Magic Eye Patch not being in the correct equipment slot (was originally thought to be a face accessory)
  • Changed the recommended scrolling methods for CZhelm and Timeless Moonlight
  • Mentioned Crystal Leaf Earrings as an alternative earring option in the notes section under the Gearing category
  • Changed minimum recommended magic for 6man PB to 1800 magic
Thank you @Study and @bren. for the feedback.

@schmoey I really like the data you've gathered on HoH killing times. If you don't mind, I will include it when I add a HoH section on the guide.

Awesome guide, ty :)
You wouldn't happen to know TMA to 1-hit skele with Gen40, by any chance?

A damage calculator shows 1270 magic with Gen 40, but I have not tested in-game myself because I have more than 1270 base Int.
